In July 2010, Pulaski Academy was selected as a recipient of a 2 million dollar grant from the Malone Family Foundation to provide scholarships for academically gifted students with financial needs.
“Our goal is to provide an outstanding education to every young student who is among the top five percent of his or her class, and who displays the keen desire and motivation to learn, yet lacks the resources to finance such an education,” said Cathie Wlaschin, Executive Director of the Malone Family Foundation based in Englewood, Colorado.
Pulaski Academy is the only Arkansas school selected by the Malone Family Foundation to receive the 2 million dollar grant and one of only 50 independent schools in the US. Malone Scholars are chosen by Pulaski Academy based on academic merit and financial need alone without regard to race, creed, or any demographic characteristics.
The Malone fund supports certain school-related expenses over and above tuition, including book fees, computers, and other educational materials, field trips, summer courses, and costs for participation in school-sponsored competitions.
The Malone Family Foundation was founded in 1997 by Dr. John C. Malone, a well-known communication and media executive and investor, and his family. The purpose of the foundation has one principal objective: “To improve access to quality education — particularly at the secondary school level — for gifted students who lack the financial resources to best develop their talents.”
