PA Athletes Celebrate Success at Signing Ceremony
"This is the finest group of human beings I have ever coached," said PA Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Kevin Kelley, as he welcomed students, parents and fans to a special signing ceremony in Connor Performing Arts Center Wednesday afternoon.
Surrounded by friends and family, seven PA athletes signed letters of intent to play football at the college level. They are:
Fredi Knighten - Arkansas State University
Fredi is the Little Rock Touchdown Club Player of the Year, Gatorade Player of the Year, Landers Award Winner, Parade All-American, All-State and All-Conference. Fredi threw for 4,600 yards and 66 touchdowns and ran for almost 1,000 more and 15 touchdowns. For the season, he accounted for 81 touchdowns.
Kendall Bruce - Arkansas State University
Kendall is an All-State, All-Conference player and caught 66 passes for 1,009 yards and 14 touchdowns. Coach Adam DePriest said, "Kendall transformed himself from a good high school player to a great one and embodies the spirit of hard work and commitment to excellence.
Jason King - Purdue University
Jason is an All-State, All-Conference player and is said by Coach Pip Runyan to be "the best lineman I have ever coached."
Aum'Arie Wallace - University of Central Arkansas
Aum'Arie is an All-Conference player and was selected for the All-Star game. He caught one pass this year and it was for a 78 yard touchdown. He averaged 28 yards per kick return, including a 97-yarder for a touchdown against CAC. He also had 70 tackles this year. Coach Todd Wodd said, "Aum'Arie excelled at learning the game of football but has always excelled at being an outstanding young man on and off the field."
Jeremy Brady - University of Tulsa
An All-Conference player, Jeremy averaged 29 yards per kick, including one for a touchdown in Nashville. He intercepted four passes and returned one of them 96 yards for a touchdown. He had 64 tackles, 10 of them for losses and recovered a fumble.
Matt Kolb - University of Arkansas
Also All-Conference, Matt has a scholarship offer from Henderson State University but has chosen to walk-on at the University of Arkansas. Coach Runyan, his position coach, said, "He is going to be there every day and work hard every play. He is one of the most reliable kids I have ever coached."
Ben Fortson - Samford University
Also All-Conference, Coach DePriest said "He is one of the hardest workers and best human beings I have ever coached." Ben had 46 receptions for 800 yards and 14 touchdowns. He averaged a touchdown every three times he caught the ball.
