Thank you for your interest in becoming a member of the PA community. Every member of Pulaski Academy’s faculty and staff is dedicated to furthering our mission and nurturing our students so that they are prepared for college and for life. Working at PA is not simply a career, it is also a passion. It requires a wholehearted belief in the importance of developing young minds in a positive environment.
Teaching at Pulaski Academy
PA faculty members teach in small classes and have a great deal of autonomy in the classroom while utilizing a team approach to planning the curriculum. As part of the PA community, teachers find themselves surrounded by supportive colleagues and deeply involved in community life. They work closely with parents and fellow educators to address many facets of their students’ education.
A Commitment to Excellence
We work in a culture committed to excellence. We seek faculty with strong grounding in their disciplines who are also open to new ideas and pedagogical techniques. It is no small advantage to work with people you can respect, and our faculty members are distinguished by their uncommon dedication to teaching, in and out of the classroom. Our students, screened through a selective admission process, have high aspirations and truly want to learn.
Pulaski Academy doubled its campus to 32 acres with the 2006 purchase of the adjacent property, adding six impressive buildings to the school’s facilities. Following a comprehensive campus master plan, the school will move into the facilities in the fall of 2008. The expansion allows every teacher to have a dedicated classroom equipped with one or more networked computer.
Professional development opportunities are often fully funded by PA because we believe that ongoing training is crucial to teacher growth and development. Annual NAIS and ISACS conferences, workshops in a teachers’ subject area, and specialized training with the newest researchers in learning, technology and child development are resources that faculty take advantage of to continue to enhance their knowledge and their teaching.
On campus opportunities for professional development abound. Department chairs, mentors, division heads, and other administrators observe classes and meet with faculty about their professional growth. Throughout the year, the technology staff offers workshops in a variety of topics. On in-service days, faculty gather to discuss important curricular matters, work together in cross-curricular groups, and meet with experts in the fields of education, child development, and curriculum.
Each new faculty member is assigned a fellow teacher as a mentor. These experienced and respected members of the PA community are paired with new faculty to help them learn the culture of the school and to grow professionally.
